When you book me as your photographer, expect to feel enlightened, rejuvenated, and inspired. The best way to approach it? Wear something that enhances your personal style and embrace the experience with an open heart. There's nothing to be nervous about—I'll guide you every step of the way, making the process feel effortless and enjoyable.
I want this to feel easy and natural, like spending time with an old friend with new stories. If you want to put on a pot of coffee, go for it—I'l arrive a little early to settle in before we begin. This isn't a clock-in-clock out job for me. It's about building a genuine connection, creating something meaningful together, and giving you memories you'll remember forever.
If you find beauty in the everyday, appreciate old-world charm, and romanticize daily routines, we might be the perfect fit. Whether you're a deep feeler or the life of the party, I have a way of fitting in like a puzzle piece—connecting with people on a personal level and picking up on the little things that make you, you.
I'm a listener, a learner, and above all, someone who wants you to feel completely at ease in front of the camera. My work isn't for those chasing perfection, but for the realists who celebrate art in all its forms—through fashion, adventure, interiors, or even painting parties with your children.
This is your story, and I intend to tell is authentically.
A Note on Investment: Photography is a luxury service, much like tailoring your clothes or getting your hair colored—it's something special, personal, and worth investing in. As a mother, my time is more valuable than ever, and I pour genuine care and intention into every client experience.
Trust is so Important: It's like that moment in Aladdin—"Do you trust me?" jumping into something unfamiliar. Photos can feel daunting, easy to put off, or hard to commit to. But from my own experience working with artists I admire, It's one of the best decisions we've ever made. Trust the process and let's start by talking.
My Approach is Organic: Photoshoots can be relaxed, natural, and even fun. I often play music that resonates with you, creating an atmosphere that feels familiar and comfortable. With my gentle direction, we'll let life unfold organically.
Remember Your Why: This is about your story, your connection. I know I sound like a broken record, but the reason we take photos is to hold onto the moments we'll never get back. It's not about perfection—it's about preserving the beauty of right now.
I'm here for you every step of the way! Just like my parenting style, I'm all about being low-stress, attentive, and eager to make you have the best client experience possible
I won't leave ya hangin! I make it a point to check in with all my clients throughout the process. Depending on your package—you can expect emails through my crm platform, discovery calls, intro calls, and timeline calls to ensure everything is on track.
Your date is secured with a signed contract and deposit. For family, couples, and portrait sessions, a $100 deposit is required, while wedding clients will need to provide a 30% deposit at the time of booking.
Simple! You reach out, we chat about your vision, find a package that fits your needs best, and then you trust in the creative process. At this stage, I do like to discuss location ideas to ensure there are no hidden fees in the contract.
My process is easy and intentional. I'm always looking for new tools to make things even better, but right now, it's pretty darn good. Automations are in place to get you the info you need faster than I can type, but rest assured, all emails and calls come from me. I read every inquiry and daydream about my clients on the daily (guilty!)
Family photography is how I got started over 10 years ago, and it's so near and dear to my heart. Becoming a mother has deepened my understanding of parenthood. You're never fully ready for the chaos, love, and passion that children bring—and I'm SO here for it!
Wait, I want in! Just kidding, but seriously—couple sessions are some of my absolute favorites. They're a source of creativity, freedom, and playfulness. I capture that storied, romantic love that feels like a movie—a cinematic editorial blend that leaves you with more butterflies than when you arrived.
So you're pregnant—and maybe your symptoms are getting the better of you, or you're glowing. Either way, how you are right now is truly beautiful. For me, carrying my daughter was a blessing, and the photos I took of myself during that time are some of my most cherished. I want you to look back and feel that, too
What makes my wedding clientele unique is the year long relationship we build. By the time your wedding day arrives, I feel like we know each other inside and out. For many, this marks the start of a lifelong connection that evolves from a business relationship into a friendship. My wedding clients are truly some of the most treasured people I work with.
You’ll notice a lot of common questions answered here, but if you ever need more info or have anything else on your mind, I highly encourage you to reach out and start the conversation. I promise—I don’t bite! Although, if you leave me alone in a room full of pastries long enough, I can guarantee I’ll eat just about all of them. But in all seriousness, I’m here to help, support you, and keep things as transparent as possible every step of the way.
I travel wherever the story takes me—so in short, yes! I'm based in the suburbs of Chicago, and anything within a 30-mile radius of my home doesn't require a travel fee. However, most city visits and locations beyond that range will include a travel fee, which I have clearly outlined when you inquire.
I’ve found that the turnaround time that works best for me—while still allowing space to breathe, create intentionally, and truly pour into your photos—is 4 to 6 weeks for lifestyle sessions and up to 12 weeks for weddings. I take a lot of care in my editing process and work hard to perfect every image, from the tones to the tiniest crop. My goal is always to deliver work that feels thoughtful, artful, and true to your story.
Yes! Film is something I’m incredibly passionate about. It holds a special place in my heart, especially with my own family. I rarely pull out my work camera at home—instead, I keep a film camera proudly on the kitchen counter, always ready to capture those sweet, fleeting moments with my daughter and loved ones. It’s honestly one of the best add-ons I offer, and the family video is another favorite that clients absolutely love. These little touches make your memories feel even more timeless.
I don’t personally own my own studio, but living in the Chicago suburbs means we have access to rent so many unique and beautiful studio options—each with different styles and price points to fit your needs. I’m more than happy to help guide you in the right direction and find the perfect space for your session!
If your package includes a second shooter, rest assured—I have a wonderful network of talented friends and industry professionals I’ve built strong connections with over the years. We’re a supportive circle, always lifting each other up, and I always reach out to the trusted photographers in my circle first before exploring additional recommendations. I’m confident that anyone I bring on will not only uphold my trust but will also deliver work that aligns beautifully with the Leah Starkey experience—artful, professional, and heartfelt.
Short answer—no. I’ve spent years crafting an editing style that feels true to me and resonates deeply with my clients. It’s one of the main reasons you choose a photographer—the way they see and finish an image. I don’t deliver RAW files, and I don’t adjust my warm, true-to-color style. I’m your artist, and this is part of the magic you’re trusting me to create.
The calendar is always evolving, so if it doesn’t look like I’ll be in your area just yet—check back soon! We tend to travel throughout North America and Europe, so there’s a good chance we’ll cross paths eventually.
We’re very much a homebody kind of family, but every now and then, we get the itch to travel. If you happen to be in one of the places we’re visiting during our travel dates, please reach out—I’d absolutely love to work with you!
